Friday 6th October 2017
Dear Parents/Carers,

Today your child has been sent home with an overview of our topic ‘Who is down in the woods today?’ This overview is called a ‘Knowledge Organiser’ which is everything that your child must know by the end of our topic.

It has been split up into different sections; maths, topic, writing, reading and Learning Powers. Please ensure that you read through this knowledge organiser and work with your child at home on the different subjects.

This topic we have asked you to practise recognising and ordering numbers 1-20, learn the 2D shapes and their properties and talk about the language of size (small, medium and big). It is very important that your child practises writing their name at home and uses the tripod pencil grip (a diagram has been put on the knowledge organiser for you). There are also some facts and vocabulary about bears to learn.

Yours sincerely

The Reception Team

Phonics week 7

December 6th, 2016

This week the children have learnt a combination of phonemes: ai, ee, igh, and oa
The phonemes ‘ai,’ ‘ee’ ‘oa’ are all vowel digraphs as they use a, e, i, o and u.
The phoneme ‘igh’ is a trigraph- where three graphemes (letters) come together to make one phoneme (sound) For example night, fright, bright.

Please see the video link below:

Challenge:
Can you encourage your child to think of any other words that use these digraphs and trigraph above? If so, can you write them down and post them onto our class blog for all to see?

Phonic week 6

November 22nd, 2016
This week the children have begun learning phase 3 in phonics. We have been learning and practising the phonemes ( sounds) to the graphemes ( letters ): j v w x
Please see the video link to see how these phonemes are pronounced and the actions that are linked to them.

Please continue to practise writing these graphemes in your red phoneme books. As an extension you may wish to challenge your child by encouraging them to find words that begin with those graphemes. Ask them where the phoneme is in the word.

Fairytales Week 1

April 28th, 2016

Last week we were learning the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children were busy retelling the story, making up their own endings and imagining a different world at the top of their very own beanstalk.

We had a special delivery from Jack sending us some magic beans and a letter asking us how to plant them. Each child wrote their own letter back to Jack with a set of instructions including time connectives (first, next, then) telling Jack exactly how to plant his magic beans.

In maths this week we have been practising taking away using a number line. The children learned how to choose two numbers and identify the biggest. They then put a circle around this number on their number line and subtracted the smaller number. (Please see video for support https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZh6p3kUdyA)

In phonics we have been recapping some of the phase 3 phonemes and tricky words we have already learned last term and have additionally been identifying these digraphs and trigraphs when reading and writing. (Please visit the letters and sounds website for some great resources to help your child at home http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/phase-3-resources.html)

Please continue to work with your child at home on these areas of learning.

Many Thanks

The Reception Team
